FAQ

Can I manage my own remodel?

It takes a certain type of person and an array of capabilities!

Do you have design vision, great organizational skills, industry knowledge, essential contractor contacts, time and tenacity?

Do you have a clear idea of what you want to do? Do you know the right questions to ask? Do you understand average costs of construction services and products? Can you effectively troubleshoot under pressure? Can your or your family’s sanity survive the strain of managing a remodel?

Don’t construction companies have their own project managers?

Yes, some large construction companies have their own project manager(s) and/or architect(s) who will manage client remodels.

Communication is key!

Does that person advocate on behalf of the homeowner or the construction company? How often is their project manager on-site? What’s their background experience? Is that person a direct link for the homeowner? How much time does the project manager devote to your project? How is their fee structured? Before you sign agreements with any contractor, be sure to meet their project manager(s).

What size projects does Seattle Remodel Management work on?

We typically work with clients who have projects costing between 100,000-1,500,000.

We’ve worked on both bigger and smaller scale projects, but for the Seattle area, this is the more typical remodel range.

We’ll guide you through the process, whether your home just needs a facelift or it’s time to do a full-gut renovation.

During our initial consult, we’ll determine whether your budget expectations are realistic.

What is your fee structure?

We are paid directly by the homeowner, not by architects or contractors.

We don’t base our fee on a percentage of the job. That way there’s no conflict of interest in representing the homeowner with other contractors who set job fees. Our fee structure enables us to truly be your advocate.

With each client, we meet for an initial consult (approximately $400) to determine scope, budget, timeline, realistic expectations, priorities, and industry contacts for a given project.

When we move beyond the initial consult, Seattle Remodel Management will provide an estimate of hours for project management and determine an initial retainer.

Can you just take a quick look at my project?

We’re happy to come out for a 1-time, 2-hour minimum paid consult.

Prior to the consult, we’ll have a short 15-minute phone conversation to confirm it’s worth your time to proceed.

Can you recommend good contractors?

When we work together, our entire network of pros is your network.

We work diligently to nurture strong relationships with licensed and experienced tradespeople.

Do I need an architect or a designer for my project?

Seattle Remodel Management complements the traditional roles of architects and designers.

We are skilled in communicating creative design options, basic drawings and sourcing product. For many of our projects, this is all that is needed. But, when larger projects require more in-depth drawings and/or have specialized design needs, we work with our homeowners to match them with best-fit architects and/or designers.

Will you help me decide on products like fixtures, cabinets, furnishings, etc. for my remodel?

Seattle Remodel Management specializes in online discount purchasing.

Our industry discounts are extended to you.

Whether you have a hard time making purchasing decisions, don’t like to shop or just don’t know where to look, we can take on as little or as much of purchasing as is helpful to you.

Are you licensed, bonded and insured?

Yes, we are bonded and fully insured!
